Google is constantly working on improving its search engine features and user experience. Here are some of the latest updates that you should be aware of.
Updated Page Experience Signal
In May 2021, Google started rolling out an updated Page Experience Signal that incorporates Core Web Vitals into its ranking algorithm. This means that not only will user experience metrics such as mobile-friendliness, safe-browsing, HTTPS security, and intrusive interstitial guidelines be taken into account, but also loading, interactivity, and visual stability of pages will be factors in search ranking. Website owners need to ensure that their pages meet these standards to avoid losing their search rankings.
Passage Ranking
Another new feature introduced by Google is Passage Ranking, which allows the algorithm to evaluate a subsection of a webpage based on its relevance to a user's search query. This means that pages with valuable passages will be more likely to rank higher now.
Product Reviews Update
Google has also updated its algorithm to prioritize product reviews from websites that adhere to Google's product review schema. Sites that do not use this structured data markup may not rank as well for product reviews.
Image Search Improvements
Google has rolled out new features to its image search, including the ability to filter results by Licensable or Creative Commons license, as well as adding captions to images to provide more context. These features make it easier for users to find the images they need while also providing important information.
Google Lens
Google Lens is a visual search tool that allows users to search for information using their smartphone camera. Google has added new features to Lens, including the ability to scan handwritten notes and even copy and paste those notes onto a computer. Lens also provides more accurate translations, making it a valuable tool for travelers.
